Sample Outfits
Overview: This collection of outfits was originally created for an actual Poplin client using her new and existing pieces. After all, there’s no need to pretend you don’t already have clothes when it’s time to get something new. Ideally, these photos will help inspire you to create new outfits at home. We’re all about strategy here at Poplin. Each piece should mix and match with the majority of your wardrobe to simplify your life. Take a look at this client’s Uber Wishlist to see the items that I recommended for her to purchase and understand the approach to her authentic personal style.
Feel free to determine your body type and personal style key words to do your own shopping and hop on the email list for more ideas. The Poplin Pinterest Boards are super helpful, too! Want more personal attention? Check out the styling services.
Client: Chandra
Style: Edgy, Youthful, Put Together, Interesting with touches of 60’s Mod
Body type: Petite Short Waisted Hourglass
Wishlist type: Uber Wishlist
New or Ongoing Client: New
Career: Doctor who works with patients, does research and is often interviewed on TV or meeting with elected officials
Outfit Strategy: Chandra has a petite short waisted hourglass figure. This means that her shoulders and hips are aligned and her waist is clearly defined. She’s less than 5’4” and her torso is shorter than her legs proportionally. Women who are short waisted often find that tops are too long and petite women who are short waisted may actually fit in regular length pants rather than petite pants simply because their legs are so long. Our approach is to embrace her hourglass figure by showing her shape and maintaining her natural balance. I have worked with countless petite women and a common theme is wanting to avoid looking like a little girl. This is achieved by choosing pieces and prints proportional to your frame. In Chandra’s case, we are committed to a spring color chart so that each piece works with the others. Comfortable shoes are essential to any woman, but especially to those who are on their feet all day at work. Comfort does not have to translate into unattractive and Chandra’s collection of new and existing shoes prove that rule.
Heads up! These photos aren’t perfect. That’s because our focus is creating as many outfits as possible rather than having perfect photos. Fun fact: each outfit session occurs in the client’s bedroom, so that also impacts the final images. The takeaway here is progress not perfection, my dear. Create useful tools and don’t get hung up on unrealistic expectations. Have fun and get inspired!
