Wishlist Goal: When Taylor became a client, she had been a member of the Poplin community for some time. She knew the Poplin encounter was an investment and she saved up while on the waitlist to be ready to take full advantage of her Poplin experience. Taylor was interested in style but struggled to find pieces that fit her frame and made her feel like her unique self. With a petite diamond body shape, she was frustrated when items made her look pregnant, which is very common for women with this frame. As a single woman living in the city with an active social life, she wanted pieces that communicated her authentic personal style while still being appropriate for the symphony or going out to a bar with friends. Work was not a priority for her and she preferred to spend her budget on pieces that she wore outside of work hours. Importantly, she really adored her Solovair boots and was hoping for options that worked easily with those. (Fun Fact: Solovair made Doc Marten boots for decades and now continues making their version of the boots.) The more we talked, the more a 90’s alternative aesthetic was evidently going to be part of her authentic personal style.
Well, I’m not sure how much more excited I can be about this list. First off, I tweaked your style key words a bit based on our conversations and your Closet Edit. Everything is in your Autumn color palette and will mix and match easily. I expect we’ll be diving into tailoring to ensure that every piece is just right on your petite frame. There’s a crazy fun collection of pieces that can be layered up depending on the temperature, dressed up for various occasions or dressed down for other experiences. In short, it’s going to be fun. Let’s dive in!
You aren’t super inclined to stock up on jewelry, so we’re making sure you have a couple of pairs of earrings that work with every outfit, are sterling silver so that your body loves them AND are lovely with your nose ring. I’m really into this unexpected hoop. It’s still minimalist, but it’s anything but ordinary.
A crossbody bag will simplify your life and this option from Madewell works with your entire collection. Remember, the stem never clashes with the flower. Green goes with everything in the natural world. The key is choosing the shade of green that works with each color. In this case, I vote for this dark forest option for maximum flexibility.
It’s time to get into the fun stuff. We discussed a leather jacket for you, but of course, we don’t want one that feels ubiquitous. Burgundy brings you joy and this jacket channels an edgier side that speaks to you. The price is certainly right and because it is vegan leather, you can wear it in the rain and toss it in the washing machine.
I love that jacket with this dress. Are you seeing this dress?! OMG. Rouje Paris is a great site for you with an array of “French Girl” pieces. Really, it’s channeling your 90’s Alternative vibe and keeping with your balance of feminine and masculine pieces. Plus, this dark floral is SO your jam and the cut is super flattering. It’s all the things.
It’s true. Tights and hosiery are a bit mysterious for you. Because you are open to showing your legs now, but need some guidance to get you there, I’m including hosiery options to help you along. YES. You can wear this combo sans tights or hosiery. So, when you feel ready to show your legs, go for it. Until then, sheer black nylons are dressier than opaque. Also, navy or black work well. Fishnets are edgier than all the other options. Lastly, nude fishnets are a great alternative to a bare leg, if you are feeling exposed or cold. Swedish Stockings are sustainable hosiery! So, have fun with the site and feel good about your purchase from this mother/daughter company.
Of course, you can finish this outfit off with your Soloveirs. Feeling like elevating things? Try these heels with or without hosiery. Closed toe options fit your needs and this fun pair of shoes will work throughout the year and mix and match easily with your entire collection. The block heel is a nice option to provide lift without sacrificing comfort or stability.
I love yellow and green together and this sweater is super cozy. It’s cropped, so it will flatter your frame. Try it layered over the dress above to transform that into a skirt. Or, go solo with any of the pants on this list.
These are amazing pants from Boden. Available in petite, they are pull on so they offer flexibility as your weight fluctuates. They flatter your frame and can easily be dressed up or down. With an effortless, but polished vibe, you’ll feel very put together. I vote for at least one pair of black and one pair of navy pants from this list. Feel free to mix and match.
Kitten heels can be intimidating as it seems like they’ll be difficult to walk in. However, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Naturally, these look lovely finishing off the outfit above. I also love them for any interview situations. (The pants above can work for that, too.)
An ear cuff is a really great look for you. It’s simple and makes your look edgier, which is helpful if you are opting for more of the feminine or classic pieces on this list.
Ahhhh!!!! I’ve been dying to get to this one. I know you don’t love things around your neck, but I don’t think this will bother you. The vibe is EVERYTHING. It’s also timeless with a one of a kind feel and definitely feels luxurious without feeling stuffy. The fabric is masculine inspired and the style is feminine, bringing together the perfect blend for your authentic personal style. Feel free to skip the belt or belt it at your smallest point, above your natural waistline. Again, it’s from Rouje Paris. It’s an investment, but I think it’s worth it for you.
Say, “hello” to your new flattering, entertaining Firefly top.
These pants are everything. Again, they are flattering for your frame and offer up a different legline to keep your collection feeling fresh without overwhelm. I love the wide leg with any of the shoes or boots on this list, so no worries there. Try the French tuck in this high waisted pant or leave the top out when it hits just below your stomach. We’ll navigate this together:)
I want to be sure I offer up a stellar pair of sneakers and these are the magic pair. Fun, unique, comfortable and practical without being boring, you are sure to get lots of compliments on them.
Long sleeve dresses simplify your life as there’s no need to figure out your layers. I love this one because it channels your authentic personal style and gives you the ideal outfit for nights out with friends, dates or any situation that makes you want to take it to the next level. Because you are petite, this should be longer on you and can be worn throughout the year with a bare leg or tights or sheer hosiery. It also works well with any of the jackets or coats on this list, especially the vegan leather option up top.
As promised, sheer black hosiery. You can get control top or not, based on what feels good to you.
I’m really into these yellow ribbon shoe laces to add to your existing Solovairs. How great is this outfit with these laces? The coat with the faux fur collar is ideal with it, too. And the green bag. Oh my goodness. It’s all a win.
Crazy comfortable, sexy without being inappropriate and sophisticated, this jumpsuit has the powerful vibe you are going for.
Feel free to layer this super cool coat over top. You may not want/need all the coats on this list. As sizing is tricky, I vote we get them and return the less successful options. This masculine and feminine piece is timeless, cool and flattering for your frame. Plus, you dig plaid.
Want to elevate this look and wear it out on the town? Try finishing it off with these platform heels from Jeffrey Campbell. They work with the entire list and keep your outfits fun and memorable.
Woodwinds, anyone? And how often do you see a referential tee in a flattering shape?! It’s on!
You are destined to adore these pants from Universal Standard. Trust me. They are ideal for your body and your lifestyle. And, let’s hear it for a female owned company that celebrates all shapes and sizes.
It’s important that you have a blouse that feels powerful, flattering and easy to pair for job interviews. I vote for this one. Try it with your existing suit or any of the pants on this list and the leather jacket, depending on the situation. Finish it off with any of the heels for a big win.
Let’s hear it for some new jeans that work well with your current collection of crop tops and all the items on this list. I am a big fan of American Eagle jeans for fit, styling and the insanely low price. They also hold up well. Unicorn jeans! Oh, and did I mention that they come in short?!
You will never regret this purchase. Never.
Just making sure you’ve got some fishnets in your collection. I vote for nude and black.
Holy glorious options, Batman! Choose from the Solvair blue or green or the docs in olive. All are going to get lots of action. The olive are the pair that comes in a platform. We talked about a white pair, but these really pull everything together. Feel free to add in the white, if you’d like. Your call:) All are good choices.
SO much love for this shirt jacket. Pendleton brings you lots of joy and I want to be sure you have something that channels that vibe while keeping things elevated, powerful and polished. This long shirt jacket from Aritzia is gorgeous IRL and will get lots of wear. Try it over a crop top, like in the image with any of the pants on this list. Finish it off with the green crossbody bag for the win.
The Voop tee is super flattering for your frame, nice quality and on sale! It comes in multiple colors, too.
These pants are on the list in black above. The Sangria color is another great option for your collection. Choose one or both expecting that these will fit nicely with minimal to no tailoring.
Ahhhh!!!! Another Rouje Paris option for you that is everything. Feminine, functional, sexy and so good dressed up or down. Good stuff here.
Try it with these straight leg jeans from Boden that flatter your frame and come in petite!
Why have a cardigan when you can have a cashmere jacket? This one is going to be a dream maker in your wardrobe, pulling together endless looks. And the price is right, too. It’s a masculine shirt that has a feminine twist, so in short, it’s your jam.
I adore it over this dress, as an example.
Another beautiful coat. This one from Kate Spade comes in a larger size, in a color you adore. Again, I vote we try them all because some will undoubtedly fit better than others.
Let’s make sure you have plentiful options for an evening at the symphony, a dressy party or other ocassions. This velvet option is uber flattering for your frame and super comfortable since you can wear a traditional bra with it. I love it under any of the coats, including the Kate Spade option above and finish it off with any of the heels.
Let’s face it. It’s cold and wet here. So, having a cozy sweatshirt that’s also flattering is a must.
This halter is going to make you look and feel spectacular. I vote for yellow, but either color is useful and fun. Layer it under your sweatshirt to go see live music or hit a bar and take the warmer layer off when you arrive.
Another crazy flattering and hip pair of jeans from American Eagle for the win.
This channels your love of unexpected feminine details. Because it is not petite, we’ll likely tailor it, giving us maximum flexibility with the hemline.
I’m really into oxfords for you. I like that you can wear them with or without tights or socks and that they have a masculine, classic vibe that will be balanced by your feminine pieces. Additionally, they are timeless and super comfortable. I vote for either black or brown. Just know either will get lots of action. Try them with dresses or pants.
Last, but certainly not least, this dress! It’s a waitlist item, but I couldn’t help but include it. It’s ideal for situations when you know you want an elegant, effortless look. Because it has long sleeves, you can skip the layering, unless you want to add a jacket, which of course, will work. The color is striking on you and it’s SO good with any of the heels on this list, especially the yellow pair!
And there you have it! I can’t wait to hear how it all goes. Have fun!
